visual redesign of an existing logo on the book detail page
For my first project at Amazon, I created a series of mock ups for a redesign of the Look Inside the Book Logo.
Working with Jason Cave as my mentor, I began the project by mocking up a variety of designs using Illustrator and Photoshop. To ensure that I kept Beacon tenets in mind, I used a Beacon-ized book detail page mockup created by Jason as a backdrop for my designs. I made sure to test each design on a variety of book covers.
When feeling a bit stumped on design ideas, I invited a small group of UX and visual designers to a critique session on my initial mockups.
Soon after, I attended a Brown Bag session hosted by Kris Bell, where he provided an overview of Axure. I took this opportunity to bring some of my designs to life; using Axure allowed me to add subtle animations and interaction to my otherwise static mockups. It provided a more realistic portrayal of how the customer would interact with the design.
This proved to be a valuable project for me; it not only familiarized me with the detail page and Beacon tenets, but pushed me to learn a new software, reach out to peers for design feedback, and improve my graphic design skills.
Several interactive design concepts are posted on the design repository.
